A Sort of Engagement shoot at the Barbican
I’ve met some amazing people and made some wonderful friends since I started out as a wedding photographer. Some of the people I’ve met have become some of my closest friends. I feel that Gaby & German are most definitely going to be friends of mine for a long time to come. They are the husband and wife photography team behind Stories by GG out of Mexico and I must say their work is awesome such that I felt a little under pressure (in a good way) to work to create some extra special photographs for the guys. I also felt quite humbled as they were also going to be participating in my Photography Workshop – the Dare Experience in a few days time.
We started out at the Barbican. I love this place for portraits. Cool as fuck Brutalist architecture, a blitz of concrete walkways, elevated gardens and the triplet towerblocks are an urban photographers paradise. for the shoot I had the feeling that I wanted to get in real close so that the guys were the frame rather than being in the frame. That kind of David Bailey Box of Pin-ups type feel. Like claustrophic but in a good way. We mixed it up a little by heading to Brick Lane and I took the guys to one of my fav places to shoot – the 1001 Cafe. The light upstairs is to die for. I”m not sure I’m actually meant to be doing portrait sessions up there as it is a working cafe/bar but wtf – the light was gorgeous.
I hope you enjoy the images.
