A Wedding in Tuscany | Destination Wedding Photography
One of the most glorious, divine wedding locations I have ever photographed is Montestignano Farmhouse in Tuscany, Italy. This was my first ever destination wedding way back in 2012 and what a wonderful way to start what was to become several years of travelling the world for weddings. Kim & Hugh had found me thru Rock n Roll Bride and I feel so honoured that they would even consider me, who had only been shooting weddings for one year, to capture their day. I flew out with Claudia the night before the wedding so that we was able to shoot some of the pre wedding fun and games.
I was absolutely blown away by the bounce of light wherever I turned, indoors and out. Destination weddings are always so relaxed of pace and yet I still felt a little pressure. In some ways, when everything is laid on for you, it can be more of a challenge because so many people would have photographed the location before for weddings and to compete you have to be on the top of your game.
The farm itself is situated in majestic rolling Sienese countryside, situated on top of a hill that dominates the plain of the river Merse. It is flanked by vineyards, ancient walled towns and architecture. It is close to Siena, Florence, San Gimignano, Pienza and other historic towns and rural locations. The farm dates back to 1783 and is family run and strikes a beautiful balance tradition and innovation.
I have photographed many weddings in Tuscany including nearby Borgo Stomennano and other parts of Italy and all were wonderful experiences and still this will always have a place in my heart as my first ever destination wedding.
When I look back I am not, as I thought I might be, embarrassed at my work. The post production is different and yet the composition of documentary and portraits is very clearly me, if a little more innocent in some ways.
